SMC fundraiser camp

Towards the end of term 2, the E.G.G committee at St Margaret's College organised and held a ‘tent city fundraiser’ to raise money for E.G.G. After a period of bad weather, the event had to move indoors into the school atrium, this change actually benefiting the purpose of the camp and causing more discomfort - due to the close sleeping quarters. The goal of this camp was to raise money for E.G.G as well as give students an appreciation of some simple comforts we can easily take for granted. Students slept on the concrete floor, were given rice for dinner and had to participate in activities which gave them a small glimpse of the life of young people in developing countries. As well as this we also had a number of guest speakers come in to talk to the group, including founders of E.G.G, Gussie Cohen and Lucy Tothill, who talked about the developments of the EGG charity. Other speakers enlightened us about the culture difference between New Zealand and some developing countries. Overall, the night was very successful and beneficial for the students as well as raising over $5000 for EGG!

A special thanks on behalf of EGG to SMC students Sophie Green and Georgia Benton, for writing this blog. EGG would also like to thank Jem Vaughn and Mia Thomson (head and deputy head girls of SMC) for organising the event with such passion and enthusiasm. A massive thank you to everyone who was involved in the event or who sponsored or donated.
