Dzaleka Classroom Project: Update #3

We are beyond excited to share with you another update from our classroom projects at Dzaleka refugee camp!

As many of you know, we have been eagerly watching as the two classrooms (which have been funded by the EGG community) have taken form over the past few months. The construction project has been possible by the liaison of EGG with our partnered charity, Build A School, and with individuals inside the refugee camp. This project is special because by hiring builders and carpenters from within the camp, we have been able to make an impact on many levels. The labourers have had a project and a form of income; and the teachers, children and families of the community have watched the construction with delight!

However, because we have been working with people from inside the refugee camp, the projects have taken a little longer to complete than previous ones, where we have used the same contractors and builders. Regardless, we are thrilled with the outcome.

As you will see from the photos, David (one of the teachers using the small classrooms) and the children are already making good use of the space! Whilst a few finishing touches are yet to be made on the site (including cementing the floors, varnishing the desks, painting the blackboard, and putting up book shelves) we are so excited that these children are already attending school so eagerly.

For most of these children, this is the first schooling or education they have received, and without these classrooms, they would not be receiving an education. We are proud to see the impact this project has had and will continue to have, and we are so grateful to everyone who has supported EGG and Dzaleka Refugee camp.
