Major project development: extending the hostel
Dear Educating Girls Globally community,
We are excited to announce that we have reached our target for the construction of an extension to the girls’ hostel at Kabuthu Community Day Secondary School (KCDSS). Hooray!! With the help of many donors, we have collectively fundraised enough to start construction on the two additional rooms at the hostel, which will enable a further 20 girls to be accommodated as they attend school. Recognising the impact that the construction of the hostel has had (based on reports from female students at the school, and the community’s satisfaction with the original project), we are excited to be extending this special building.
This progress comes after reports from the community indicated the rising number of girls enrolled at the school, and the need to accommodate students who would otherwise have to walk long distances, or pay for board locally, in order to receive an education. We have been working with our valued partner, Build a School, to review cost estimates for the extension, to bring the total number accommodated at the hostel from 40 pupils to 60.
Make sure to watch this space for updates from the site as we receive them over coming weeks!
We are continuing to accept donations for the hostel, which will be used to make final enhancements to the girls’ boarding house and facilities at Kabuthu Community Day Secondary School in Malawi (including financing the bunk beds and furniture once the extensions are completed). Any donations received will be greatly appreciated as always, and will be directly impacting female students in Malawi.
Stay tuned, and as always, thank you so much for your support.
Love from EGG
